Nelum Pokuna Arts Theatre

President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened  Nelum Pokuna (Lotus Pond) Mahinda Rajapaksa Performing Arts Theatre on 15th December, 2011. The Theatre built on a model similar to the Nelum Pokuna (Lotus Pond) of Polonnaruwa, was constructed with expertise from China at a cost of Rs 3.08 billion.   This is common to all Arts in Sri Lanka.

Southern Expressway (Sri Lanka)

Southern Express Highway is Sri Lanka’s first E class Highway.
Its construction was began in 2006. The expected cost for this project was $600 million.                                                                               
It is 126 Km long will link the Sri Lankan capital Colombo with Matara.
The expressway reduces the time taken to travel from Colombo to Matara to one and a half hours from the current four hours.
Some 1300 families have been moved because of the project.
It is maintained by Road Development Authority.
